Lord Make Me an Instrument

The Journey of Life: Becoming an Instrument of Light

The journey of life, much like Alice’s encounter with the Cheshire Cat, begins with a simple but profound question: Where do you want to go? If you don’t know, then the path you take doesn’t matter. Yet, many seek certainty—security in a world that offers none. Some retreat, avoiding life’s risks. Others charge ahead without clarity. But the real question is not about the path, but rather: What is wanted?

At the heart of ancient wisdom—whether in the Bhagavad Gita, Christian teachings, or mystic traditions—lies the essential inquiry: What are you here for? Are you working for corporate goals? For your family’s expectations? For fleeting material security? Or do you serve something greater—something timeless?

The Call to Service

Many great spiritual paths emphasize the same truth: fulfillment is found in service. In the words of Saint Francis, “Lord, make me an instrument.” This prayer is not about self-denial but about transformation—becoming a vessel for divine energy, a channel through which love and wisdom flow.

Kriya Yoga, for example, teaches that the body itself is the instrument for connecting with the divine. Through breath and awareness, one learns to attune to the higher energies of life—solar, earthly, cosmic—and to bring them down into physical being. This is not abstract mysticism; it is a practical science, a method of turning oneself into a conductor of divine energy.

The Shift from Teacher to Light-Bearer

The old model of spiritual learning was hierarchical: a teacher imparts wisdom to a student. But the evolving consciousness of the world suggests a shift—from a top-down approach to one of shared illumination.

Instead of looking to a single lighthouse for guidance, we become lighthouses ourselves. Instead of one candle lighting a dark space, we become a field of flames, spreading light exponentially.

This transformation is not just personal; it is planetary. Across cultures, faiths, and ideologies, groups are working toward the same ascension of consciousness. Whether framed as the Second Coming, the Age of Enlightenment, or a global spiritual awakening, the core belief remains: when enough individuals elevate their vibration—through love, service, and divine connection—the collective consciousness of humanity will rise.

Guarding the Mind: The Sword Against Fear

Yet, one of the greatest challenges to this awakening is fear.

Fear distorts perception, lowering the energy of both the individual and the world. In Dune, the phrase “Fear is the mind-killer” rings true. Every fearful thought, every negative judgment, acts as a seed planted in the soil of consciousness, growing into manifestations of separation, doubt, and despair.

Thus, the practice of transformation involves discipline—not in a dogmatic, rule-based sense, but in a vigilant awareness of thought. Every time fear arises, it must be cut down, like a sword slicing through illusion. Some approach this gently, like popping a bubble of illusion; others, like Kali, cut off ignorance at the root.

Living as an Instrument

Being an instrument of divine energy does not mean retreating from life. It means fully engaging, but from a space of higher awareness. It means embodying love, not as an abstract belief, but as a palpable, lived experience—just as salt is salty, or the presence of a beloved pet is known without question.

This is not a new religion, nor is it confined to one faith. It is ecological spirituality—an awareness that we are part of a living, breathing universe, interconnected and responsible for the energy we bring into it. Whether through words, actions, or even the mere quality of presence, each person has the power to uplift the world.

The Invitation

So, the invitation is simple: become an instrument.

Be a lighthouse. Not in competition, not in possession, but in service. Light the way for others, not by claiming authority, but by reminding them that they, too, can shine.

And in that collective glow, the Great Eastern Sun is already rising on a new world—a pure land.
